Introduction

‘Know Your Numbers’, a campaign that originated through Public Health England (PHE) and their One You campaign, was designed to help the public know their own numbers regarding their heart health, including blood pressure. This has now been superseded by their Better Health campaign, but it was originally launched on 14 February 2019 at the PHE cardiovascular conference. Several organisations picked this up and launched their own versions, such as those ran by Heart UK, Blood Pressure UK and Heart Research.

Home blood pressure monitoring was identified as a priority during the COVID-19 pandemic by NHSE. They wanted to ensure that patients can manage their hypertension well and remotely without attending their GP practice. They launched a campaign called BP@Home which is currently underway during 2021.

A GP practice in Sunderland was already loaning out blood pressure monitors before the pandemic arrived, and wanted support for the development of documents to help healthcare practitioners and patients manage their blood pressure in the community, without the need for regular appointments within the practice.
